RUB Bauwesen CompEng

On June 18th 2014, the RUB engineering faculties were for the third time, visited by a group of 14 US‐American students from the Ivy League universities of Harvard, Princeton and Pennsylvania, as well as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The students, who either have a background in engineering or the natural sciences, were invited to spend their summer in the Ruhr Area in the frame of the so-called 'Ruhr-Fellowship Program' granted by the University Alliance Metropolis Ruhr (UAMR).

The 'Computational Engineering Coordination Office', represented by Coordinator Julia Lippmann, took the chance to welcome the Ruhr Fellowship holders to the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and introduced the international Master's program to them. Apart from some general details about the faculty (programs offered, associated institutes and departments etc.) the presentation included information specifically tailored to American Engineering students: the focus of the program in the area of numerical simulations, its distinctly international character, future job fields (automobile industry, aerospace industry, medical engineering), the program's manifold relations to companies such as Thyssen/Krupp, Bosch, EADS/Airbus, Volkswagen, Daimler, MSC, Siemens, DeWalt. It further highlighted its close connection to the Collaborative Research Center 837 'Interaction Modelling in Mechanized Tunneling', a research cooperation between the faculties of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Geo Sciences, which holds promising career opportunities for high-qualified Engineering graduates and especially computational engineers. The presentation was met with great interest among the RuhrFellows and after it was finished they keenly took the CompEng flyers and posed a lot of interested questions. CompEng is looking forward to their applications!
