RUB Bauwesen CompEng

This time our yearly trip led us to Hamburg and we got to spent 3 days (from the 22nd to the 24th June 2017) in this magnificent city. We left the RUB with around 40 Computational Engineering students just in time on Friday morning at 7 am to arrive around 1 pm after a smooth bus ride in Hamburg. After bringing their luggage into the rooms of the youth hostel, which was located directly at the Hamburger Landungsbrücken, small groups of CompEng students were seen all over Hamburg exploring the city. After dinner, everybody met outside the hostel and we all went on a walking tour across Hamburg which started with a goody of the Hamburgian culture: An Astra! After we saw St. Pauli, the harbor and much more the group split up in little groups to spent the evening. Some discovered the crazy nightlife of Hamburg at the 'große Freiheit', some went to the Alster and others kept on exploring the city.

On Saturday, we all met in front of the hostel to take a group picture. After that, we did a guided boat ride on the Elbe and around the harbor. It took us quite some time to find the right boat which could have been caused by spending a little too much time on the 'Reeperbahn' or the 'Schanzenviertel'.  The ride itself was awesome. We got to see the harbor city, one of the big AIDA cruise ships and a submarine. Diego, one of our CompEng students joined our trip even though it was his birthday on Saturday. Two people went to the captain and asked him if it would be possible to wish him a Happy Birthday and everybody sung full-throated "Happy Birthday". That afternoon we enjoyed our free time. A big group of us visited the submarine and went inside exploring the narrow spaces. Afterwards some students played table tennis in the basement and some went on to enjoy Hamburg’s nightlife.

On Sunday morning, everybody had to pack their luggage again because right after breakfast we had to check out unfortunately. There was no way to leave this this beautiful city yet because we all went to the 'Miniatur Wunderland', the world`s largest model railway. The students could see Venice, the Octoberfest in Munich, Hamburg airport, the Vatican and other sights of many more. Most of the students were stunned by the attention to detail which was given to each model in the rooms. Around 1:30pm we started our journey back home and arrived after a lot of traffic around 10 pm in Bochum.

Thank you everybody for joining this trip. We are already looking forward to next year's trip. A special shout out the RUB Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Sciences and FSVK, who considerably helped to realize this trip with their financial support.
