RUB Bauwesen CompEng

Official Welcome Ceremony WS2019/20

21

Along with around 5,700 new students at the Ruhr-University, around 45 new CompEng students started the winter semester 2019/20 in Bochum. From over 1800 applicants, who went through a complex selection procedure, they are the lucky candidates who were admitted. This year’s students come from over 20 countries, such as India, Pakistan, Iran, Argentina, Brazil, Vietnam, Greece as well as Turkey; and we are happy to welcome every one of them here in Bochum!

The enrolment in the morning was followed by the official welcome ceremony. General Coordinator, Dipl.-Ing. Jörg Sahlmen welcomed everyone and gave a short historical overview about Bochum and the Ruhr area as well as about the rich cultural background. The ensuing presentation by Sharan Nurani Ramesh, president of the CompEng student council, gave our newcomers a first-hand impression of living in Bochum and studying at RUB, giving some valuable tips on how to keep the balance between hard work and leisure.

Finally, Course Director Prof. Dr. Klaus Hackl welcomed the students on behalf of the department. Afterwards, the lecturers gave a short presentation on the course programme and what the students have to expect during the first semester.

We want to thank everyone who helped us during this years’ Welcome Day.

We wish all our new CompEng students a good start!
