On 6 December St. Nicholas’ Day is celebrated in Germany and other countries of Christian culture in honor of the historical bishop who is regarded as one of the most important saints in Christian tradition. On 6 December 2010, however, another historic event took place: A full meeting of the Computational Engineering class was held during which a student council for the Comp-Eng Masters program was founded. Right at the beginning the meeting was interrupted by St. Nicholas in person (or was it Comp-Eng Coordinator Joerg Sahlmen just wearing a deceptively authentic costume?) who brought a bag full of chocolate Santa Claus figures to the whole class.

After the students were briefly informed about the responsibilities and functions of student councils by FSVK-spokesperson Sven Görgens and Comp-Eng coordinator Julia Lippmann, 14 students were elected as members of the new student council. The student council will be the first place to go for all Comp-Eng students in case of personal or academic problems. It mediates between lecturers and students, offers advice on various fronts such as subject specific issues, organizational, private or social. Further, the student council organizes activities and social events such as tutor programs, excursions, welcome parties and sports events. Get a visual impression of the event here.
